Usually going out in Brisvegas to a night that consists of good quality house, progressive, tribal etc is few and far between these days. Either due to venue issues or that ever worrying factor of ‘pulling the crowd’ as Vegas does have a tendency for the more harder house and trance and more commercially funkier sounds. Well 3 local yokels, Scott Walker, Alan Ho and Mag00 (TRIBUS) took the challange to bring us a night of pure unadulterated house, progressive, tech, tribal, breaks, electro and whatever else was found in those record crates. And for more added entertainment value they managed to grab ex Brissy boy Jeff Drake for the ride as well.

Walking downstairs into The Underground Bar brought with it a strange sense of deja vu. Before it was converted into another one of those Aussie English/Irish bars it was home to the underground hosue, techno and beats culture of Vegas. Well over the past few months it would seem that the underground beats of Vegas has made a welcome return to what once was La Discotheque.
Only a handfull of discerning music lovers were in the venue at about 10pm. Yet that wouldn’t seem to matter as the music was coming out strong and deep. Alan Ho and Jeff started off proceedings with a special 3 hour back to back set. White labels galore were protruding from both record crates as Alan and Jeff proceeded to give us a taste of all things deep and musical. Some very noteable moments include a new Lexicon Avenue remix of Depeche Mode, a Danny Howells mix of “Born Slippy,” a breaks mix of Coldplays “Clocks” and newie from Jeff Drake and Ryan Papa. Thru out the course of their set, the venue slowly filled up and the dance floor slowly morphed into small sea of up for it punters. Loud cheers were released as the two finished their back to back set with style. It was midnight when Scott Walker took control.
The venue was littered with people and the dance floor packed by the time Scott took over. Dark, groovy tribal beats sent the crowd into a primal frenzy. Hypnotic rhythms combined with ethnic percussion, samples and accapellas penetrated the speakers with low end frequencies. Mixes and tracks from Deep Dish, Oscar G and The Pirates of Tribal were welcomed with the utmost appreciation from the Drop Disciples. At 1.30 am Scott handed over control to Brisbane’s techno funkster Mag00.
Tough, yet funky beats combined with awesome technical wizardry on the mixer is what Mag00 is known for and he didn’t let up on this occasion. Started off with the Dirty “Dirty” accapella before launching into an aural assault of subsonic bass lines and crisp percussion, Mag00 kept the dance floor begging for more as he worked the mixer like no tomorrow, mixing his tracks wih furiosity to keep up with the relentless beats and driving rhythms pulsating from the speakers. The crowd were lapping it up in true dance floor style. But due to an early shut out by the venue everyone was slowly, very slowly exiting the venue.
TRIBUS had pulled off one very very successful night of quality tunes and the starved crowd walked away with their ears full to the brim with pure underground sounds. With the success of the first “Drop,” the guys have decided to bring Vegas “Double Drop” happening mid June. Cya’s there.
