Porn by theme, porn by nature, as the porn freaks of Sydney stepped out on this beautiful of beautiful Saturday evenings to enjoy their Filthy Habit. The eager and punctual revellers were greeted by a boatless wharf but lapped up the chance to take in the porn star fashions on display. By 8pm the boat had arrived and the anxious wait was over as people quickly filed onboard. It seemed we were in safe hands as a crew of 4 gorgeous sailorettes and their captain were in charge… but if all else failed, there were more than enough nurses, cops and whores to tend to things.
As we set sail the place to be was definitely outside, taking in the sights of what surely ranks as one of the worlds most picturesque city’s, highlighted by a big bridge and some fancy pants threatre. Only to be matched by the dominant red and blues of North Sydney’s most prominent office blocks. The music coming from the house level (downstairs) was dominated by percussive drum laden house and highlighted with soulful jazz influences to keep things rocking. However at this early stage the crowd voted with their feet and it was very much in favour of the tougher progressive sounds permeating from the upstairs level, where the Habit Crew held court over a busy dancefloor with such tunes as ‘Saints & Sinners – Pushin Too Hard’.
As the boat continued its journey along the harbour foreshores and as the music disturbed local residents and pestered fisherman on their late night adventures, the crowd began to drift downstairs – hard to say why, but it quite possibly was due to two particularly attractive girls in sailor outfits… carrying whips who tempted and teased the crowd (as they would do for the whole night) – self included. There was no shortage of recognisable tunes being played, including Gwen Stefani’s recent single (at least 2 or 3 different remixes were heard across the night), Daft Punk’s – One More Time and Mark Dynamix was welcomed to the decks with Underworld – 2 Month’s Off. That however was about as tough as the music got for the rest of the night as thereafter it continued down a path of funky house with smatterings of electro and tech. Trips upstairs were few and far between, but from appearances, it seemed the trance was going down a treat with a busy dancefloor.
Unfortunately for the punters the event was a tad undersold and sound quality left a lot to be desired (why do promoters/DJs never do anything about volume and bass overkill … when amps are dropping out for periods at a time, that’s generally a hint that you’re overcooking the system) these were the only detractors from an otherwise good event. So if you see a sexy sailor girl around town, tell her I said hello – but for now, im going to continue indulging my Filthy Habit…
