What was incipiently described by many on the night as being welcomed by a medley of more mellow type soundscapes for a typical night in the drum and bass dominion, the cosy venue was slowly replete in a dilatory succession, and by 11pm the beer was cascading and the rhythms were maturing.
With the detested smoking laws recently enacted, throngs of tribes begrudgingly gravitated outdoors to impregnate their lungs with their chosen substance. It appears that the prediction of smokers butting out simultaneously with the new regulations was a farce indeed. Smokers will still smoke even if the freight trucks that deliver them are ubiquitously hijacked and lighters are prohibited from all bars, shops, and news-stands. They’ll still smoke. They’re dedicated smokers.
After leaving fans awestruck after a paramount performance amidst the murky dungeon like setting of Platform One last time around, the capacity for the crowd for this setting was deficient. I’m sure nearly all who attended would attest to the fact that there was simply not enough room to jive effusively (with a profuse amount of statues [passive punters] at the helm exasperating the vigorous d&b heads). The exorbitant concourse for Concord was overwhelmingly inert, and only towards my departure did I see the avid patrons getting wild and tumultuous (it had little to do with the beer to hour ratio). On the contrary Concord Dawn were impeccable. Their prolific charisma and affable demeanour enhanced their already unsurpassable stature (with 4 albums released and a fifth in production). As always they had the heads nodding and (with the addition of more space to roam) the vibe elated.
Not much more to transcribe. Copious smiles, Bangin’ beats and Ideal temperature. In summation the island dwelling kings of drum & bass returned to rhapsodise their frenetic partisans with their progressive onslaught of tempestuously eclectic beats and pieces, receiving ecstatic applause from dispersing the several illustrious tunes that the centripetal hoard blatantly recognised. No need for namedropping.
Risible antics had by many. Bigger venue in future please.
