I was a little in the dark on what to expect from a Friction set. I’d never seen the drum & bass legend mix before, but I can now after the fact, it was an amazing experience! His set certainly took the junglists on a musical journey through liquid, soulful, dancefloor killers, and he served up mixes that continuously left the crowd in a state of awe. The event attracted all the regulars plus plenty of new faces, and it provided a wicked vibe for the night! The night was surely one to remember.

Friction is the founder of Shogun Audio record label in the UK. The imprint plays host to artists like K-Tee, Spectrasoul and Alix Perez. Friction has put out CD, digital and vinyl releases on Shogun, as well as Valve, Renegade Hardware and True Players, among others. The local line-up for his Adelaide gig was perfect, with Weez opening things up with a smooth set of liquid, rolling tunes. Following Weez was MPK, and once again he provided us with a rocking dancefloor set, also adding to the party atmosphere. Leading up to Friction – and MC SP – was John Doe. All in all, it was an awesome wind up to the badness that was to following, and it got the dancefloor going and energy levels up!

The first two tunes Friction smashed were ‘Jump’ by TC and ‘Planet Dust’ by Bad Company; things were off to a good start! He continued to smash it out, tune after tune, and the crowd continued to dance up a frenzy. MC SP was the perfect complement to Friction’s set, with smooth and clean rhymes and an impressive flow. Clearly, MC SP and Friction are well suited for each other as they know one another’s style. Throughout Friction’s performance the dancefloor was tightly packed. There was close to no room to move! They were still going well after Friction’s set. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen Gabrielle’s room at HQ quite so packed.

To top the night off local badboy Patch treated us to a rocking set representative of his trademark style, with tight mixing and on-point tune selection. There is no doubt that he pulled off some amazing mixes! Whenever Patch is on the bill, you’re destined to be left wanting more. The man certainly never disappoints. Overall, I must send a massive ‘big ups’ to the Playtime crew. They certainly know how to throw a party of phenomenal proportions, and tonight proved it.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
