STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
A proud member of the oft-mentioned ‘Swedish house mafia’ along with other hard hitters like Eric Prydz, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrossio, our man Axwell is one of the finest house music producers doing their thing on the planet today, whatever shade of house he’s turned his attention to on any given day. Over the past few years he’s been inextricably linked to the rebirth of the 80s electro sound, but that all changed last year when he dropped the massive I Found U: One of 07’s biggest anthems, it encapsulated perfectly the piano-heavy 90s influenced sound that’s been brewing in house music for the past few years and ensured we’ll be hearing a whole lot more of it in clubland in 2008. Viva la piano riff!
“For me, the success of I’ve Found U has been fantastic but obviously, the pressure is on for 2008. I’m really scared of repeating myself: nothing that I do sounds the same as the record that came before it… You’ll be hearing more tracks with piano riffs for sure, but different piano riffs and in different contexts.”
For those who want a sneak peak into what 2008 is going to sound like, Axwell will be back in the country really soon for a bunch of Australia Day parties. ITM talks to him about I Found You, house music in 2008 and in hindsight, what it means to him to have been such a big player in the electro house sound over the past few years…
Axwell will be playing at the following dates across the country…
Friday 25th January: Brisbane, The Met
Saturday 26th January: Cairnes, Velvet Underground
Sunday 27th January: Sydney @ Home
Friday 1st February: Perth, Metro
Saturday 2nd February: Melbourne, Famous @ Queensbridge
And just in case you’ve somehow managed to miss it, here’s the clip for the massive I Found U...
