Fresh from a HUGE weekend of inspiration from two world-class DJ's at Platinum and Family, this mix starts out clubby and ready for radio, takes a tribal twist and ends up in progressive-trance / uplifting / female vocal / melodic thumpers :P . It was done in one take after a long party night which had made my ear drums a little mushy.. so there's a few errors in 2 or 3 of the transitions, and it gets kinda moody and deep at the end I think mainly due to the news of a death in my family :( MEH!!!

I am indeed moving to QLD (Beenleigh) and will definately be after gigs once i arrive.

The sound i was pushing in this mix isnt one i normally play on a regular basis, however it's definately a sound that i do really enjoy playing when given the opportunity.

My predominent sound is a more deeper style of house, sorta like Inland Knights, Lawnchair Generals, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter etc etc..

I mix from my laptop using an Echo DJ Soundcard + Xsession controller and a stripped down version of Virtual DJ with everything turned off .. so it acts basically like CDJ's with mp3's which allows me to beat match myself rather then it's crappy auto beat match engine which is F**ked. When you name your file guys and gals... try to avoid using spaces, as this is chewed up into %20 syntax and looks ugly. Avoid this by the use of underscores. Also make sure you have the right ID3 tags and if possible, cue sheets. I recommend Winamp5 as a low cpu MP3 player of choice and it lets you alter ID3 tags as well as accepting a wide range of Cue Sheet Plugins... meaning you can "skip tracks" through one whole mp3 mix as if it were many smaller ones. Im going to do a little tute on this soon because im asked a bit about this lately.

I appreciate where you're coming from on this Dri, naming conventions and standards are useful and essential in some instances, but not all. FWIW, I don't have issues with the %20 encoding for spaces, as they are decoded correctly on my machine. But even if they were not decoded correctly, the name of my mix is meant for humans to read, and the spaces and punctuation have meaning in that context. I'm against modifying how I write my own language in order to satisfy some machine based character encoding requirements. The encoding/decoding should be working for us, not the other way around. If you don't like the title, or have encoding issues, you can rename the file or fix your encoding issues before you save it, I won't do it for you.

I agree with putting in some minimal identifying tags, such as the title and artist for a mix, and I put those in. I also agree that track-marks and cue-sheets are useful. I don't put track-marks or cue-sheets in my mixes anymore because the technology has developed to a point where you can jump to any part of a large mix very quickly. Again, if you require a cue sheet, or need extra tags for your database, feel free to add them yourself : )

Do what you want Sven, though i dont find any of your quote responses logical... im a dba by trade so thats to be expected. Im not arguing BOCU-1 over SCSU or even the relative merits of catering to possible KOI8-R in Unicode character compression... im offering fundamental and common advice for people who want to meet the status quo demands of industry professionalism. Look at it as common sense for marketing... if you are making demos for promoters or for gettin booked for gigs then this advice will be useful. Whether you choose to care or not doesnt matter to me.

Mix starts out with some Funky DNB, then moves into Freeform, Happy Hardcore and back to DNB for the last track. Tried to fuse elements of several different genres i love into a fresh, energetic hour of music. Enjoy.

August just being around the corner, and me having next to no time during the next few weeks, I'm jumping the gun by a few days to put up a massive bunch of tunes in a two part August promo. There's a hint of Sasha, Digweed, and even Lawler spread across the combined mixes totalling around 2hr 40min which I yanked from about 3 hours of a VERY productive (and only slightly munted :offchops:) sunday morning on the decks.

The first part ended up the more cruisy-paced with a stab of tech mainly in the middle to spice things up. The second part seems to be WAY more involving (can't stop re-listening!), has a tinge of prog-trance to it and it gets the techy-nastiness out of the way up front. I didn't realise at the time but looking back I'm pretty happy about the damn good peak that comes out of the last few tracks.

Ya . enjoyed now.

I'm liking the bassline ... the drum pattern doesn't gel with me though .. too steppy and that snare is just too prominent ... as a result you're mostly listening to a bassline and a unvarying snare.

Bring that old dub sample up in the mix too i reckon .. or perhaps EQ so it stands out more when all the other sounds are playing. I like it when it breaks down and you can hear it, but it becomes mud in the mix methinks.

ya ya ... so like it's working as a tune :thumb: but for my ears it some tweaking on EQ and levels to isolate some of the sounds and/or take out the harsher elements of some sounds and it will be even more of a listening pleasure
