After listening to this a few times at work today and in headphones, i've decided i'm happier with the mix than at first listen. Still probably one or two parts i feel i could have done a bit better, but overall i personally found after a few listens i'm much happier with the way this turned out.

Using Flstudio 7 producer edition for all my stuff, with a bunch of tasty vst's for filling + about 7 or 8 years of constant effort.

Hehe i've always had a soft spot for chip/game inspired music. Love it, always come back to it! Unfortunately though i don't have any REAL chips... I should look into modding that old gameboy someday... Eeeghhh doesn't that Timbaland shit make you sick? that would be my worst nightmare.

Hey Funkedub, you've got a really nice style there - and quite a grip on the production side of things. Arrangement is pretty well done, i felt that the breakdown at about 3:00 could have been exploited a bit more, but that's all. Very tight.

And Whiterabbit - that's one crazy ass track you've got there. Lots of cool sounds and ideas, but it seems to lack direction a bit. It also seems overcompressed to me, everything's fighting for space! But hey, carry on - it's alot better than some of my earlier tracks! lol @ the ending too! :lol:

no need to make it 320 for free online consumption, especially considering it hasn't been mastered properly as yet ... 192 is nice enough ... even 160 is fine .. just not 128 or below. If people want better they should be paying for it ... or at least giving you a beer. ;D

320 should really only be made for high end online distribution, not for archiving ... for archiving save it as a CD quality .wav (24 bit if you want it that high quality) then make what ever MP3 versions you want from that master, from 128 for crappy online dist. to 320 for delivering MP3 CDs to be played out at venues etc.

first up ... screw the .rar ... ona 10Mb file you've managed to reduce it by 600kb ... hardly worth it.

you made this with Reason ? I feel i can virtually hear it changing from pattern to pattern. I don't know how you're using the sequencing or piecing this together but it's structure, though solid, seems very "paint by numbers" ... i.e. if i wait 4 bars, this high hat will come in ... then i dropped this synth after 8 bars add the other. Where the bass synth changes around 2:14 and 3:50 is a clear example of what im trying to explain. I can virtually see this track in the sequencer as i listen to it.

Another point on the structure ... basically it's too drawn out. All the ideas you've got there could be packed into a 5 minute track, rather than 9:30, and it'd would be a lot more exciting and dynamic ... especially considering that beat doesn't vary much.


Now the sounds ... if you're going to Cubase to master this ... then i'd ReWire every instrument into the Cubase mixer. All the sounds you have sit well with each other, no nasty clashes or mudiness. seperation/panning on the hihats is good too. What they really need though is a good EQing to give some of the sounds more presence and body.

I'd also get into tweaking the synth for that bassline. It's sounds very much like a Reason preset :P you could certainly benefit from nastying it up a bit then in Cubase EQ, compression, over drive. . don't be afraid to experiment. Maybe get a fat break to get the track rolling along with that repetetive kick action you've got going there (like bring up that housey clap thats lurking in there)

The ideas and song progession are there and will make a good track ... but the whole thing lacks dynamics ... both aurally and as a song

caaaarnn ville ... put some more square wave of that bass synth damnit !! too much sine .. not enough square ... let her rrrrrip ... and maybe compress it a bit too ... needs more testicular fortitude. :P

If i was playing with this i'd double your bass track. The clean sine type bass at the beginning suits that part well, so keep that... but when you start working the envelope on it .. that's when you kinda expect it to get a bit more dirty/gritty .. so mabe kep the clean sine there and just mix a ruffer bass over the top ... then back to clean when it breaks down .. possibly ... maybe .perhaps .. its your tune innit :D

The harder tech acid stuff abounds still but this is one i started a few months ago when i was feeling like death, miles beyond hunger over in a cafe in Plaza Reial in Barcelona, and finally got round to mixing down not too long ago on a trip back up to Brisbane. It becomes a monster when played live (live synths, samples, fx = mega prog woosh) as those coming to Plexus will hear but for now this meek render will suffice :zabiela:

^^^ Sounds alot better on home speakers - I downloaded this at work. Love it around 3.30, the bass dances around nicely the whole track. Not able to give any technical opinion but it's a head nodder that's for sure!

recently ive been getting alot of requests to recommend downbeat/chilled compilations (partying too hard much? :p ) so over the last couple months ive been gradually going thru some 50-60 odd albums to come up with a soundtrack to this time of year

so ive compiled two discs, first up, the day one, a little bit beat heavy at the start with hiphop leanings to some funk jazz licks to samba and a touch of reggae to close
