JAMES ZABIELA
Knowing what a great track should sound like - and the place it can be taken by warping and twisting it - is James Zabiela's forte. James' style is trippy, bleepy and deeply - nay, downright - groovy. Oh, and watch out for a few gnarly basslines along the way, those nasty, dirty sounds are a part of JZ's signature now. Scratches, loops, and fluttering chord changes are all par for the course in a Zabiela set.
James' career so far has been stratospheric to say the least. Swiftly snapped up by Sasha's Excession agency, he spent the next year taking on Eastern Europe, Australia, South America and the USA, while still finding time to record well-received CDs for Renaissance and unleash a string of fine remixes along the way. Royksopp, Ladytron and progressive artists Spooky have all been under the Zabiela scalpel - and more are on their way.
Pushing the envelope while still learning to cope with a real-life fan base and life on the other side of the record counter, it’s unlikely that James Zabiela will be taking a breather anytime soon. There are further late niteries like Tribal Sessions and Matter to entertain and regular slots in Romania and Budapest to attend to. On a recent trip to Argentina he played a five-hour set in front of 6,500 screaming punters at Moonpark in Buenos Aires. No wonder Sasha refers to James as the guv'nor, This is still just the beginning.
ALEX NIGGEMANN
Alex Niggemann can be best described as idiosyncratic, impulsive and self-critical. What might be construed as negative for some people, are attributes that have paved the way to a remarkable career for this DJ and producer.
His productions enjoy a solid reputation on labels such as Get Physical, Poker Flat, Supernature and 8bit records. It was no surprise to see him being at the number 8 position on Resident Advisor's "Top 20 Charted Artists" in the end of 2009 ahead of DJ's such as Loco Dice, Joris Voorn or Ben Klock.
Alex’s bookings have taken him around the world. Gigs in North and South America and across Europe have become part of a standard business routine. Alex has been real busy in 2010. His ‘Play House EP’ was released in January on the dutch BlaBla records. The track 'Jewels' appearing on his own Soulfooled label and his ‘Take Control & Use Me!’ on Supernature this summer conquered the club scene. Alex has been performing his DJ set throughout the summer season on some of Europe’s and Ibiza's best known dance floors. His solid reputation has opened the door to some of the world's leading, most influential clubs, including Ibiza's Privilege and Watergate in Berlin.
One of the things that distinguishes Alex Niggemann's style is that it's hard to define. With a highly anticipated EP for Steve Bug’s Poker Flat imminent; this headstrong producer isn't interested in sub-genres and likes to describe himself as a House DJ. He produces and plays whatever suits him at the moment: from dark tech house to vocal- heavy house music. Either way, he's always right on target with the club crowds who dance to his music all night long – all over the world. Wherever his mood takes him, the club scene will be paying close attention to what comes next on Alex Niggemann's turntables.
GEORGE FITZGERALD
The last few years have been as experimentally freewheeling as any in the history of electronic music, and there are few finer examples to support that argument than London-born and bred beatsmith, George FitzGerald.
With releases on Hotflush, Aus, and his own imprint, ManMakeMusic, his productions combine with exceptional style and grace both the warmer, melodic sides of house and garage with the more heated, pounding drum patterns of dubstep and techno.
All the best producers have hallmarks, and FitzGerald’s are evident in his measurement, his awareness of light and space and his use of searing chord lines. His is the lightness that makes the darkness, seem darker.
