I was actually a bit disappointed with Zabiela.. He seemed to hang around in that tetchnoey sound all night and when he did show glimpses of versatility, it was only a couple of minutes before it was back to the same. It wasn't bad but certainly not the fun-loving kind of set we usually see!

George Fitzgerald was really cool, however!

Why so? I enjoyed all of the sets. When the breaks crept in, all it reminded me of how fun partying can be.
Only negative that i took away was that i didn't get to see Simon and Jordz do their thing after James. Thems the breaks I guess, but should it really be?

Thanks for a fun night!

I will say playing that late wouldn't have been my first choice as it can become more of a job to keep poor tired tired ravers on the dancefloor and leaves less room for experimentation.

Anyway, big up to all who attended and to Dark Beat!

Fankooooooo! Jz x

That was eff-tastic.

MAD props to all the internationals - each one really impressed me! On top of that the sound system and LED rig's were freakin amazeballs. Top quality production Darkbeat!

As for JZ, methinks you have a new fanboi

JAMES ZABIELA! What can I say?

That was one of the greatest sets I've ever had the privilege of seeing/hearing. If not the best.

I loved the lighting and visuals last night. They put across a different feel all together. The VJs are really good imo as they adapt and help tell the story that the music is telling. I was transfixed!

I'm not saying it's sh#t, i'm stating that they did the exact same configuration as the previous party they put on. The only difference is the LED panels were on 1/4 ton. block motors and they pulled/released them accordingly.

That part specifically was a step up from any other stuff I've seen in a club environment before... took me until about 1/3 of the way into JZ to notice that the panels had been moving!

Really cool production

Really cool production

They did a similar technique at the A-Tak show late last year at Billboards presented by Fuzzy Ent.

There were a fair few faces that I haven't seen for a while. Love how a zabiela can bring them out of the woodwork!

I thought Fitzgerald was great. Set the mood well. Niggemann pretty much just smashed it. Was great.

Zabiela is insane. Crossed so many genres and deconstructed and reconstructed the tunes piece by piece. The toys and tricks just added extra excitement and crowd responded accordingly.

Unfortunate that the early close happened but otherwise it was seamless.

Would be happy for all 3 headliners to come back any time

Definitely bumped into quite a few faces I hadn't seen in what felt like years....Had a great crew of lovely people last night with both JZ and Orbital combined even bringing out some older clubber friends!

Had an amazing night and there was a cool, fun buzz that carried through from the Orbital gig combined with JZ anticipation.

With Zabiela, you really don't know what you are going to get but you definitely know you're in the most skilled, forward thinking hands of someone who is nothing short of inspirational in how he always rocks the crowd, even if it is a room full of 'poor, tired ravers' . Whether you're into what gear he uses or you just want to see him smash it to a full room, last night we got to see why he has such a huge following of fans.

Big ups and thanks to Darkbeat, thanks James and friends, and props to the crew behind the awesome visuals and sound being on the money last night!

Wasnt able to stick around long but a few things.

Phil k is as good as he's ever been, and you can tell he's loving playing this slower stuff

George Fitzgerald was incredible. This scuba sounding track he played with this melodic break down and a dubsteppy kick was next level shit.

Sound was impeccable. Reminded me of old Sunny parties.

The stage and set up was sick

Mad vibe on the floor.

Sounds promising for the Perth show tomorrow. Don't believe the Court will shut early like Billboards did.

That said, wonder what the tally is with the number of gigs stopped early there?

Awesome night.

Loved George Fitzgerald. Zabs killed it. Sound, production, crowd - everything on night was fantastic. Aside from it finishing when it did - would have loved to hear what Murphy and Jordz had planned - but aside from that - perfect night!

JZ absolutely blew the roof!!! Such a talented and technically brilliant DJ. Great to see the RXM-1000 in full flight - definitely one powerful piece of kit.

Pity Billboards decided to shut down early. Weird decision, considering the place was still packed

I've been to a few gigs now where billboards has done that. Does anyone know why? Dan did they give you a reason why they turned the lights on early?

My only guess is maybe they've made enough money at the bar, and when it gets to a certain point where not many people are buying drinks anymore (the bars were pretty empty towards the end), then it's not worth them staying open anymore money wise. Maybe it costs more to keep paying the staff and running the lights/LEDs/speakers etc. than they're making from the bar towards the end. If so, the owner of Billboards is a stingy bastard that has no interest in the music/scene/event nor the happiness of the people that frequent billboards for great gigs like this.

This issue has happened far too often for people to continue still thinking that Billboards is a viable option for gigs.

Turning the lights on and forcing the party to finish earlier than the advertised time is pathetic.

I wasn't there, but did this happen during the time JZ was playing?

Simply not good enough.

The only time I haven't been kicked out was the Darkbeat birthday party and they opened late for that . Had to wait to get in. It's just got to the stage where I hear something is on there and my heart sinks.

Surely they can manage things better. Stagger the staff according to requirements. ?? The sideroom is a joke , forget set times there. This kicking everyone out at once is a ticking time bomb , throwing that many pissed and pissed off people out on the street at once ??? It's a credit to the Melbourne crowds that nothing has happened yet.

The bar tender in the side room passed over me 5 times before he served me

I was going to chew him out but he was by himself and I felt bad for him having to handle everyone alone.

But it's not rocket science to get the order of people who come up at the bar right. And fuck those bitches for pushing in front of me, I hope you get hit by a bus. No really, it would make me smile.

I think it's probably more along the lines of they stopped making enough money over the bar to financially warrant keeping staff on, security on, venue operating, etc. yeah...

They're not the only place that would be guilty of that!

Other than missing out on seeing what Jordz & Murph were going to do, as Miss Bee said, raging night Had a blast!

I'm actually at the stage where I refuse to go to anymore Billboard events.

I paid for a gig, the set times were advertised and I have a right to be at the venue during those times.

Fuck Billboards.

I can understand why a venue would do it IF the place was empty - but the fact that there were a good 200 odd people still on the dancefloor once JZ finished up, was a bit annoying. Regardless, it was good that they let JZ finish his set without any hassles! Plus, 6am is still fairly late for a venue like that to be open.

If they hadn't booked the venue for two big events on the same night, Zabiela could have been on at a reasonable time, so people who couldn't stick around for whatever reason could still have seen the headline act. Plus everyone could have got their sets in before 6.00am .

We really need a better, more flexible venue.

The old closey early again...that's so rank...sure, if the night is a flop and no one is there, close, but if there's still loads of people, close the side room, let 1/2 the staff go, including security as it's a ratio that's required, so when less people, you can let some people go...

James smashed it on the boat party in Sydney, holy fuck that boat they have up there is insane, makes the ole Vic Star look like a bloody tiny row boat. JZ even gets boated out to the boat party, anchors down, transfer from small boat to big, fucking rockstar!
