At least Smoking Joe had the balls to front and admit that he was a self promo whore - but at least he made people smile and laugh THEN went on to do charity gigs.

Courage? Determination? What the fuck is he doing exactly, giving blood to orphans whilst scaling Mt Everest to reach the pinnacle where a dying childs cat is stuck, so he can rescue it for him? No. He's organised a way, a place and the means of supporting a stunt that only profits his own unjustified ego and probably even scoring a bit more on the side from sponsorship. If that's worthy of respect then you've got a twisted and juvenile sense of the word.

who really gives a fuck what his reasons are for doing it ?

dude wants to achieve something for whatever his reasons are and does it, well then good for him. didnt realise stunts these days had to be under the charity banner.

I started mixing with cassettes and then moved to turn tables back in the late 80's. Through time DJing has grown into larger scale platforms with USBs and computers on multi touch screens. When someone plays, its not just about pushing buttons on a laptop for preset playlists. This requires matching and synching skills combined with musical knowledge and strong mathematical aptitude. Six years ago, I thought about playing for a Guinness World record of 100 hours and learned that accomplishing an attempt to publicly spin music without sleep for multiple days requires courage. It also requires excellent health, clear state of mind, determination, good funding and sponsors to really make a successful go at breaking a record. I salute Rene Brunner (DJ DC), Smokey Joe, Hertz, and others for attempting and/or achieving their records, regardless of how Guinness or amateur spectators label each attempt.

It's easy for people to be critical and negative. I know many DJs..good ones, bad ones, and the rest. Regardless of how we measure success here, very few have the tenacity and drive to take on this challenge. We can all take a lesson from Smokey who is taking the latest GWR information like a real winner. Good luck to Hertz. Hope he achieves his attempt and much more. May we have half of the strength and focus these DJs have to achieve our own dreams.

I'm focusing solely on the reasons why people think it's worthy of respect. It's not worthy of respect if it's just a big stunt to promote his own name. That's akin to respecting a brand just because they've launched a new advertising campaign. If he was doing it for reasons outside of himself - THEN it's worthy of respect.

Anyway, he tried and failed. Now let us watch him fade into obscurity and hope we never have to hear about this worthless shitheel ever again.

Do you know why I think people are hating? Because when it comes down to it, no one really cares about the record for the longest DJ set. It's a personal feat of endurance, a mark in a record book, but even the most rabid of clubbers has to admit that it's a hollow, pointless exercise. It doesn't bring anything to the scene. It's not a DJ set in any sense that we can relate to. No one is ever going to say "That was a great set, I danced all week."

Of all the things you could do to get into the record books and maybe help some folk along the way (run around the country, climb a mountain, dig some wells or something) here stands a guy in a skanky first world bar playing doof CDs for a week. Whoopee.

It was no different, no more meaningful when SJM did it. But Joe's insane personality got people on board and made it fun. I don't think anyone really paused to reflect on what it meant for someone to DJ for so long. They just wanted to see the crazy bastard do it.

Now DJ Hertz is having a crack at it, and while he may (by all reports) be a great guy and a capable DJ, he doesn't bring that SJM energy to the table. And without it, people are seeing this record attempt for what it is: A guy pressing buttons for several days. A self indulgent pursuit of bragging rights that feeds nothing back into the tapestry of humanity. Hertz is taking the flak, because he doesn't have the SJM bubble around him. But the real target isn't the man, it's the pursuit.

Charlie P was born in Bogota, home of the world-renowned Rock at the Park
open-air rock music festival in Latin America. He spent his boyhood in Chile
where he was recognized as a professional champion BMX Bike Racer. His
travels with his family throughout Americas nourished his melodious ear with
music from various cultures. Being immersed in music all his life naturally made
him an aficionado at an early age.

At 15, Charlie P was promoting bands and performing as a musician. It was with
Paradise that he fell in love with the magic of mixing; turn tables, and House
Music. He delved into radio for RadioActiva Cali, returned to Bogota and
secured a spot with Super Estereo 88.9FM, a high-ranking radio station in
Colombia where he hosted student activities and mixing for the weekend party
show. He remained there as he further excelled in his musical and
entertainment career. After performing in television and radio commercials, his
exposure as an MC led him to form Purpura Mobile Deejae, his very first
enterprise that became among the most sought out mobile DJs in the country.
He was invited to consult on various projects with Polygram Colombia, now
Universal Music, and EMI Music.

By 23 Charlie P had become a successful and experienced music entrepreneur. He
was called to Sony Music’s marketing division where he worked closely with
artists like Shakira Colombian super star, and also promoted artists like
Aerosmith, Ricky Martin, Oasis, Gloria Estefan, and many more. During this
time, Charlie P had the opportunity to visit prestigious venues throughout the
world. He fulfilled one of his dreams when he moved to New York City to devote
himself to the music and radio industry. There he worked alongside legendary
DJs in prime clubs like The Tunnel, Roxy, Webster Hall, Flamingo and more. He
became a pioneer in crossover style parties touring venues like Club New York,
Monaco, Buddha Lounge, and Copa.

In his early 30’s Charlie P returned to House Music throughout the East Coast. He
has spent significant time as a guest DJ for premier venues and radio shows in
the United States and Canada. Occasionally he works with renowned radio artist
DJs and producers on special projects.

Charlie P has found ultimate meaning in music all his life. He is grateful for all
the passion and love music has brought him. In addition to working toward
becoming a world class DJ for his own realization, he is compelled to make a
difference. Charlie P is now embarking on new confidential ventures to expand
the music and radio industry. For now he will keep us all guessing, but shares
that it will benefit humanity.

Kendall7790, the fact you went to all the trouble of making an account just for me is nothing short of touching. Let's get tea sometime. You can impress me with tales of trying to ride coat-tails and I'll give you compliments about the shitty $80 shirt of a fake fashion magazine cover from Universal you just bought.

DJ Hertz is actually alright!!!! Once he hit the 100hr mark he started mixing up his set with some Hip Hop, Nirvana and Grease Lightning. Although I wish he would stop MCing because its destorting the feed.

This guy just lazily left a 4 beat loop running for a good 3 minutes while he sat there talking to his mates. He seems completely disinterested in what he's doing. Poor form.

It isn't really djing nowadays anyway. It's button pushing lol. I 'd like to see these record attempters use vinyl? I would like to see them fit 7 days worth of vinyl into their record cases? Dj = Disc Jockey , not mp3 , wav file button pushing. All the best with your world record attempt, in any regard. Who's paying for the drug TAB? ROFL!
