The live set from Vril is so sick: http://mnmlssg.blogspot.com/2012/01/...cial-vril.html. Make it the next mix you listen to if you know what's good for you.

A new mix I put together for the Modyfier series. And it contains music from my two favourite Australian producers - Ben Frost and Lawrence English.

Ssg special - Vril

http://official.fm/tracks/339119/download

Absolutely storming set.

There are enough dubby stabbs for it to be familiar but it has a unique identiy somethere between dub and industrial.
My mixes:

Bruno Orso’s Sunrise Over Tocumwal, 28 January 2012
Track list

Orso's Sounds of the Tunnel Vol 1, December 2013

It's a good mix but not really that special. Heard many a better set than that and yes I get it that they were playing at 9am and all that but I was expecting something...more.

Some solid research going on here, the writer approaches one guy who is apparently the king of all things underground in Melbourne and bases an article from his response. All this from over the other side of the world.

I'm not suggesting there aren't some solid points made but the writer doesnt seem to be in a position to comment. Article didn't need to be written IMO.

It does come across awfully cynical, but I see what he is getting at. Calls for Melbourne being one of the best house scenes in the world is way over the top. I agree more with what Magda is saying in her comments, that while it is great that it gives Melbourne more exposure on a global scale, the article was too narrowly focused on one aspect of who is making the scene stronger down here in the last few years.

PC lives in Melbourne, so he was not writing that article from the other side of the world.

I didn't realize he lived in Melbourne, the article still seems rather poorly researched, it is even qualified within the article.

On magda's point, I think the reason why the likes of OOF and SOT may have been glossed over is because they don't produce. Otologic weren't featured either and they are huge part of the scene here.

My response to PC's post wasn't a comment on the merits of MDC or releases from guys like Lewie or FIO, just that the RA article gave a really narrow overview of what seems to me a really thriving musical scene across many genres. Sold you guys short, for example, in that they didn't mention you - and I reckon your releases fall into the broader category of house music on the odd occasion. Just my opinion of course...

Happy to discuss further with any Melbournians at the OOF Sven Weisemann / Basic Soul Unit double header - I'm heading south of the border with the lovely Trinity. Prepare thyselves.

Very sad news. Chris, you have achieved the best mix/podcast series for the many strains of techno out there in those four years imo. Is it a quality control aspect that has led you to come to this decision ie you have reached the limit of artists you wanted to present and don't think it needs to be branched out any further?

Like someone commented it is sad to hear, but also comforting to know that your finishing on a high note and not rinsing out sub-par mixes like so many other blogs do on the internet.

I am long gone a train spotter, music has taken a backseat in my life unfortunately, I have trouble keeping up with releases, labels, names and the like, but your vision and aesthetic towards the music you push has always given me an easy outlet for music (as I like A LOT of the stuff you guys post up.)

Big props to the slow transitioning of showcasing small labels and names involved in the synth/no wave etc etc scene. This music is hugely fascinating and techno and house have a lot to learn from it, it's nice to rewind time for a change in a ironic sense that techno is forward looking, forward thinking music.

Again, sad news as I have very little time to trawl the blogosphere for good outlets of quality music, so your mixes will be missed.
