Man every level is epic. I love this game. If the shooting is like this in GTA5 it will be the greatest game of all time.

I dig it, but I wish the controls were better myself, its got that clumsy Rockstar feel all over it, still better than it was in RDR and GTA5 though so maybe it'll be sorted for GTA6. Agree with some of the reviews about the cutscenes being too frequent, but love the tone and monologue throughout, definitely more intriguing single player than most shooters these days.

The on-rails sequences are EPIIIICCCC.

You playing it on xbox or PC Chippie?

I'm playing on PC so no control issues once you turn off the aim assists. I could imagine it being pretty hard on console if you used free aim though. There are sections where you need to head shot 5-6 guys in a row.

The cut scenes are a bit over the top but they are going for the real narrative heavy style and I think it works well. I love the visual style during the cut scenes (the flickering and colour effects) it gives the game real movie like feel.

Just finished it then

Spoiler:
Not sure if the story is better then MP1 but is very "rockstar". Obviosuly the gameplay and mechanics are miles ahead of MP1 and 2.

Im playing it on xbox with no aim assists, which is fine on single player, but alot more of a prick on multiplayer, its just not precise enough. That, and I am shit.

I think I need to get this. So many good reviews and I loved MP1. Will have to get it on xbox though.

Even Yahtzee liked it, he just bitched a bit about the lead character being a bit negative - if that's the worst yahtzee can say about a game then you know it's good!

Even were I back in my gaming prime, which passed on so very long ago, I can not imagine playing through the harder difficulties on xbox without at least the soft-lock option. Unless you were willing to suffer through one million frustrating deaths.

You're not the only one

http://support.rockstargames.com/ent...payne-3-for-pc

There was a patch release to fix up the problems:
http://support.rockstargames.com/ent...eported-issues

Or you could try this:

Quote:

I have a workaround that works for me atleast.

Whenever a cutscene is shown, press alt+enter to run in window mode (also improves framerate for some reason), and when its over press alt+enter again and continue...

That work around is grim, considering theres a cutscene every minute

I've installed the patch, since I was online and wasn't allowed to proceed by the auto-updater until the patch was installed.

Re-installing the retail version didn't fix anything, nor did installing the latest drivers. Lowering settings reduced loading time but that's about it.

I'll try dropping down to DX10 (I have 2xSapphire 6950 in Crossfire, full DX11 support) but fucking hell, I should have learnt my lesson from the GTA IV expansion packs - never buy a Rockstar game on PC.

lol

Finally finished this game, and now I get to go back and find all the golden gun parts etc. Fun times, A+++, would play again.

It's also shown me how lowsy I am at shooters I found Medium difficulty challenging don't think I'll put myself through a hard play through.

What kind of mouse sensitivity do you PC gamers use for shooters? I had a hard time lining up head shots towards the end where you kind of have to do that

Well I wouldn't feel too bad. I played through on Xbox, but even with a big screen tv there are certain sequences/rooms where there so many guys around and debris flying everywhere that even on normal it can be hard to find a clean shot on one bad guy before the 3 or 4 others you haven't noticed have out a bullet in your face.

I finished it on the weekend (PC, patched, highest resolution)

loved it. The attention to detail was mind boggling in places, and the graphics (both backgrounds and close detail) was gorgeous. Story , gameplay, stupid corny one liners also did it for me too. Especially not knowing what the fuck everyone was saying in Portuguese - loved it they didn't dumb it down.

two thumbs up

been playing this a bit. enjoying it. visually pretty good but the PPFX can be a bit much at times. gameplay is classic max.. good to see they didn't change shit for the sake of change. It worked really well before & it still works well now. Story is engaging, but half the game feels like i'm watching max drink. Could've done more with that stuff (or just removed most of it)

complaints: it feels more like a movie with a few player controlled action sequences rather than a game i interact with. I reckon i spend more time watching cutscenes than actually doing stuff. Also what's with the shitty movie part quality then awesome IQ when it goes to real-time rendered stuff. oh and some of the camera views you get in tight spaces are fucked. can't see what i'm doing.

Oh he is still drinking?

Tell us more of your opinion of a game which you haven't even half finished

Pre-coffee post but I agree it is like playing out a movie, and for me that was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game. There are plenty of grinds you can do like finding golden gun pieces if that's your thing

so i'm not allowed to form an opinion of my experiences so far? i'm a fair whack into part 2 anyway
Spoiler:
and yes max is trying to give up the sauce. still doesn't change the fact that the first half of the game had a shitload of scenes of him getting smashed in his apartment on his own

i'm all for story. i just wish the game involved you interacting with it a bit more. That doesn't mean i want to grind and find every little hidden item - i mean i want to be in control more and not watch a movie 80% of the time.

I had a really hard time coming back to this after a break. Just felt so repetitive and closed in with the way you handle each wave of enemies. The story is dope, graphics killer, but the mechanics just felt too annoying after a while. The multiplayer is way more fun though imo.

i didn't mean it like that. You should know if you read any other game threads I'm always bitching not enough story etc

i'm more questioning where the line should be drawn between animated movie & game. Sometimes this one feels a little too close to a movie with the same same fighting bits every now & then to try & distract you & make you think you're playing a game. Doesn't mean i'm not enjoying it though

well that was fucking good. I didn't think they'd be able to pull off the true max again but they certainly did. Story was really good & every time you thought it was coming to an end it had more to give.

The cutscenes are pre-rendered 1080p hence the large file size.
