Mixing in mono? Process?

Mixing in mono? Process?
I've been reading a bit about mixing in mono - and I'm just trying to get a grasp on the exact process.

Is the idea that you mix inn stereo and THEN check in mono....OR.... do the whole process in Mono from whoa-to-go?

Also, is the idea that you mix only using one monitor, rather than mixing in mono on two monitors?

mono on one speaker. do you pans on stereo, flick to mono, eq and set your verbs/delays. switch back to stereo.... profit

why thanks guys
as for mono on one speaker. you can do mono on 2 speakers, however i find using only one speaker far better. i find it helps pin everything to one location, rather than having a phantom spot between 2 speakers
