The Elegant Gentlemen's Guide To Knife Fighting
Did anyone catch this?

My expectations are always pretty low for Australian screen comedy. For a country that has produced some pretty funny people we often fail to translate that talent to something funny on tv and even less so on film but I thought this was uniquely, oddly, obscurely hilarious in parts. Even the less successful sketches were far better than what Australian tv normally produces.

I'd say it's like a cross between Big Train and a good Apatow film.

The first episode (of a reputed 6) is on iView (for a week or two at most) now:

It's worth your time.

The advert was as funny as cancer. Were you high when you watched it?

Yeah the advert wasn't funny, and that's one of the least successful sketches I was talking about, and I had serious reservations about the pretensiousness of the title, but honestly there was some seriously funny and odd stuff on this show. As I said this came as a massive surprise to me considering I just flicked it on while waiting for something else.

I really think people should give that first ep a go. Some of it doesn't quite work but a lot of it is very funny and I normally don't laugh out loud at Aussie comedy shows.

N.b. And no, I have no connection to the show.

tl;dr - Aussie comedy rightfully gets panned but sometimes you have to give props where they're due.

Do it.

And if you think it's shit I'm sure you'll need no permission to use the ban truncheon on Aussie comedy in the future.

Spoiler:
Please remember also that no matter the comedic credentials of the writers and actors, sketch comedy is always pretty hit and miss from one sketch to the next. It's the nature of the beast.

Caught the re-run last night.

Definite potential, better than anything else of this ilk that's been around recently
