what do you guys think about the str8-30's compared to other beginer direct drive turntables?
do they hold there pitch and approximatally how long does it take for the pitch to go off?
and what do you think is a good price for 6-9 month old str8-30's in fairly good conidiot..

Ya bascially get woot u pay for man..... @ P A u technics fanboy...technics farkin suck and its about time you ppl realised it. My st150's have been bulletproof and are much better to use than any technics. Technics have no torque, the top is made out of plastic and the pitch controller is shite. Sure I have used technics before for 16 friggin years! Now I would never go back. If any of you "technics fanboys" actually used a set of st150's for any period of time you would get over the omg these dont feel sloppy like my technics scaredy cat faze and you would actually realise they are a far superior product. Too many of you are stuck in the past!

1: no, it's can YOU keep a mix for at least 30 secs?
2: yep
3: yep, industry standard.

and i lurve my st150's too, digital output, switchable line/phono output, built like a brick out-house, more torque than you can poke a stick at...

and they're blue! my fav colour

second hand technics are going for around $900 a SET these days.

buy second hand technics, just do it.

also if you're skimping on a few hundred for the setup, how are you going to afford a $20/record addiction

@ Stanton Fanboy, and at least our club is bigger

And yes, I have owned a pair of St-150's. Tonearms are crap.

You wont have any issues with Pitch controllers if you have good maintainence.

crappy old belt drives (as i worked on for a while) or technics 1200s ... itdoesn't matter.

Just learn to ride the pitch and use your ears

then there's never a need to worry about the pitch not locking .. that's for lazy people

On both Stantons i owned, the axis on the tonearms was off so the cart wouldnt sit parallel with the vinyl. And the tonearm quality aint as good overall.

My first pair of decks were the 30's.... I still have them, and they still work fine... pitch is a bit shakey around the +/-0 area... but they arent too bad for mixing at home...
Of course technics are better but I couldnt afford them at the time and I cant now, so I still just have these...
And I bought them at the end of 2003... if you treat them nicely they will last...

Torque aint got nothing to do with how you mix, its just what you are used to that counts

If you can learn to mix without touching the platter, and riding the pitch, then as long as the deck has a stable motor, it'll be fine.

That being said, I;ve used the str 80's. And they sucked balls. So I can only assume that the 60's suck dick. The 150's however, suck diamonds. Best deck ever.

You ever thought maybe he doesnt wanna spend $1000 on turntables? I mean it is pretty laughable that he wants turntables to begin with, If u cant afford decent kit how are u gonna afford vinyl?

Gotta say, at the end of the day the technics re-sale value is pretty reliable, and you know people are gonna want to buy them. Stantons are still proving themselves and id say pple are more hesitant to buy into non-industry-standard products. Got ST150's, had em for well over a year, and i still reckon technics pitch slider comes in first (very close, but no prizes for second best...)

Even if you spend a grand now, youll get it back if you decide turntables arent for you. If you buy gear that doesnt hold its own, your making life harder for yourself and you'll end up hating it. If you buy gear that holds now, you might stick with it, and you wont have to upgrade

Well considering that you spend what close to $2000 for a pair of 1200's loaded. Most I have seen sold go for 1000-1200 for the pair hmmm yes technics do hold their value...not. Look man stop looking for someone to say these cheap arse turntables are ok cause they are shit. No oneis gonna validate your shit purchase, but if you cant afford to buy something decent then just buy them already and get on with it....

technics still fetch $500+ a turntable as long as someone hasn't set fire to them.

try selling stanton 150's or vestax PDX series for over $500.

You can get 1210 MkII's for $800 each, not a big ask.

Considering decent 4 channel mixers are around 2k, good decks are rather cheap.

Speaking of good deals, i got a DJM-800 and road ready case for it with shipping for $1870

poor built quality, pitch wavering, poor tonearm construction....

the unit isn't a professional unit. it's a consumer product. as such it will not last the distance.

I'll say it once again just to make it perfectly clear.

how do you intend to keep a hobby that costs in excess of $200 a week for the first year or so when you're skimping $500-600 on the initial setup costs?

Yes its true that the technics would be easier to resell and at a higher price but you would expect that seeing as a pair of 1200's was $600 more than my stantons. Unlike the newbies in this forum I have been djing for nearly 20 years and have no intention of selling my decks. I already have cdj's and serato so the digital future is covered. Unlike all these blacksheep that go and buy technics cause ppl tell em to or cause they are the "industry standard" I decided to buy what I thought was the best, fuk ur standards, fuk resale, buy the best buy stanton

pitch wavering would be the only problem,

im getting the str8-30's for $250 so theyre most likely to keep their resale value,
if i find that these are not suitable, i will upgrade within a year.

Dude why do you even ask for our opinions when it seems you pretty much have it in your head that ur gonna buy these things. Not one person in this thread has had anything good to say about your proposed purchase. Yet you still seem set to proceed. If your just looking for validation then your wasting everyones time.

Stantons are not the best Sir Fart, and I bought Technics because they are the only Decks in the world people will rent. In 3 years i have not had 1 inquiry to hire Stanton, Vestax or any other brand of deck.

played on one a few times... they're definately a big step up from the djm600, but far from the quality of a rane or the beast which is the xone:92

can't complain for the price though

I'll probably end up buying one down the track... but if i had the money i'd go a xone:92 any day

I'm an A&H fanboy... my mate just bought a Xone:92... we're gonna tear it a new 'un tonight

I like the new effects on the DJM800... the effects bank is way better than the djm600, and the colour fx thingy's got a wicked sweeping filter...
