Yah cheese & tuna toasties are the bomb, another of those things that is so wrong and yet so right!

Tuna and toasted cheese sambo isn't weird.

No wierder than cooking up a cheesy tuna, mixing in some macaroni, throwing some cheese and breadcrumbs on top and baking it.

Same ingredients minus the pasta.

I was a Sirena tuna fan myself till i tried the Safcol Premium Selection. Now im a convert for life.

When you get a chance people you must try the "naturally smoked" flavour ... the best around hands down!!!!!

Safcol and sometimes greenseas (depending on the flavour)

I like Safcol a lot more, but my supermarket jack the prices up to stupid levels for it

at the asian supermarket yesterday I noticed Ayam have a whole range of flavoured tuna....some sound pretty good too. The chilli one says (hot) in brackets !. I was about to buy the tuna & black pepper...then I noticed it was $3.70 for small tin ( 125g or so I think) ..then I noticed a fried eel in black bean sauce for $1.50. sold

Bracko I know what you mean about the price that supermarkets charge for Safcol tuna.

You should do what i do ... when they are full price (around $2.00 a tin) you only buy a couple to get you through the week. But what they do is every 6-8 weeks they go up on special for the week. When on special they can be anything from $1-$1.50. When this occurs i go out and buy bulk ... a dozen or 2. Then i get to enjoy the best tuna around for a month or so at a decent price!!!!

Go on call me tight arse!!!!

PS ... gotta try the wood smoked flavour ... kick arse!!!!

Another Sirena vote here.

Though I worry about eating too much Tuna, have heard stories of people tucking in too much and getting Mercury poisoning :\

Bracko good to see that great minds think alike!!!!!

BTW where do you get the larger safcol tins from. Most of the supermarkets round my way only stock the small ones. There was a fruit shop in Bankstown that had the big ones on special ($3.00 for 2 tins ... an absolute bargain). Only problem was they sold out in 1 day!!!!!

I make tuna burgers with a mix of drained tuna, mashed potato, egg and breadcrumbs sometimes.. they generally turn out quite well.

Good healthier alternative to beef mince.

Sirena is the only tin-tuna that is even remotely palatable. That said, tin-tuna is a crime against fish. Tuna should be eaten raw, carparccio style with lemon/lime juice,, flake salt and cracked pepper.

Bought the Ortiz anchovies before, but never the tuna. Not actually ever seen the tuna now I think about it. How much is it?

I'm tempted to buy it to find out why it's 5 times the price of sashimi grade tuna.

bought 8 cans of sirena today cause it was on special and you guys seem to all like it

had the plain oil today very nice... whoever said it wasn't olive oil, it sure looks and smells like olive oil??

have bought the light chilli, soy and ginger, springwater with lemon, lemon and pepper, just spring water and light oil i think.

having wholegrain wraps at work at the moment with a bit of salad (lentils, beans, cous cous or regular, depending on whatever i dream up...) light phili and the tuna...

now it's getting colder i tend to opt for the more unhealthy options if i go down to the sambo shop like hamburgers, pasta (which is full of oil) or chicken schnities

i have been putting this off for weeks, so to help me get a kickoff i bought a large sumo salad... more expensive, but sooo much less hassle.

will make a lentil bean and cous cous salad on wednesday for the rest of the week...

I feel so much better at work having something with lower GI and less fat.

What he said. ^

There's an awful lot of the tuna fish I wouldn't want to be eating as sashimi.

I've bought tuna and tinned crabmeat to alternate this week with salad of corn, mixed greens, snowpeas, lentils, cucumber, tomato, avocado and a boiled egg on the side.

all the tinned crabmeat I have bought is rubbish. Better off buying a tub of the stuff from a fishmonger imo.

I don't think the difference is too much shittier than comparing tinned tuna to fresh tuna when you think about it. People are just more used to tinned tuna than tinned crab. It's still sweet and nice for simple cheap sandwiches or throwing on salad for work. Don't get the home brand ones. They're full of water and shell. I'm not sure what brands I've bought but anything not generic supermarket brand is fine. I wouldn't go substituting it for the real deal in dinner or anything but for cheap convenience and a change from tuna it's hardly gross. The fishmarkets isn't always a convenient or viable option if you just want a cheapo work lunch. Plus fishmonger tubs go off. Tins last in the pantry.

Tinned crab does not sound very appealing. Love it fresh though (however, krafty's point is a valid one). Sirena in oil is also my pick for tuna, awesome stuff. Hate the flavoured types by other brands.

I eat the springwater and brine ones.

My favourite is Greenseas but i also like the coles and woolworths home brand ones.

Do not like safcol because of how fishy it tastes.
