To the People App in Android? Not as of ICS it doesn't, because Google and Facebook can't agree on the API data.
Vanilla doesn't have it any more, only custom ROMs or phone UIs like TouchWiz, Sense and so on do.

I found an app called HaxSync. Seems to do a decent job of it. Nowhere near as smooth and awesome as it was on Sense though.

Thanks VoteQuimby and DjReal, that's the kind of comparisons and reasoning I was looking for, the kinds of things that aren't found in online reviews...

Haven't looked at the HTC models mentioned, but if they're bigger than the Galaxy Nexus, I probably won't...

no prob.

The Nexus may seem big at first, and it was to me. But now I think it's the perfect size (for me anyway). I look at my wife's HTC Incredible S and hold it and think how small it is. Same with the iSheep.

I saw it in store last week, and the physical size didn't bother me too much, so I don't think that'll be something I'll have to get used to...

Screw it, buying Galaxy Nexus from Kogan ...I've had it with telcos, it'll be the first time I won't be locked in to a contract since I was on pre-paid....

Yeah this. At first my One X seemed massive, but after a couple of days my Desire feels tiny now. I'm loving that huge screen.

stupidly indepth review on the HTC ONE X

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-one-x-review/

key things to note

Quote:

we got 12-plus hours of moderate use out of the One X (that's checking, email and social networks, making a few calls, sending some messages, taking a few pictures, downloading a few apps); your mileage will vary

Quote:

Compared to the likes of the Rezound and Sensation, it's also around 30 grams (1.1 ounces) lighter -- presumably due to the new materials being put to use on HTC's great white hope.

Quote:

Super AMOLED Plus aficionados, this is what your rival looks like. On the non-PenTile One X, colors seemed more natural and the whites were whiter than on AMOLED devices like the Galaxy Nexus.

Quote:

It's also the quickest cameraphone we've ever reviewed, the 0.7-second startup time and 0.2-second delay between shots beating even the speedy Galaxy Nexus. A single LED flash capable of five different intensity levels completes the package

Quote:

We tried to push the hardware as much as we could and it handled nearly all of our tasks effortlessly. GTA3 loaded effortlessly -- and was fast. Even task-switching couldn't sink the phone

Quote:

what you'll get with the One X's user experience is a pleasant mix of ICS and Sense, both halves somehow finding a way to live together in harmony.

I do hate that the new ICS handsets are missing a dedicated 'search' key. Sounds stupid but i use the search key on my sensation xl pretty frequently. Yes i can just put a google widget on my home screen, but thats just taking up space that could be used for something else.

you know what.

i'm looking into the HTC ONE S now.
its a 4.3 inch, super amoled, its only dual core but apparently its processor is faster than the tegra 3 quadcore, the battery lasts longer and its super thin.

actually seems it could be better than the HTC ONE X

Of course the battery lasts longer, it has a much smaller screen and worse technology on the screen. Dual core are always quicker than quadcore, but quadcore is better for multitasking and power managing.

On SGS2, if you hold the menu key it fires up the default browser in search mode which is the same as the widget. not sure whether changing browser affects this functionality though

Thanks for this tip. I'm another search key addict and sorely missed this when swapping to GS2 from HTC.

No problemo. It also brings up the various search bars in Google programs; eg in maps it takes you straight to the map search bar.

Just wondering can phone shops match those online deals the telcos have on their sutes where they give you two months free access?

No.

The idea behind it is that when you purchase online, you receive no after-sale assistance from stores when you need help with anything.

So, providing you never have any billing or handset issues at all, you can potentially save yourself a few dollars by doing it online.

You'll still get help if you have issues but you have to deal with their online team only via phone and email.

Optus, however, have a promo running for new customers at the moment where they are offering 3 months free to any customers porting in from another carrier that takes a windows or android handset.

Can anyone recommend a good ICS ROM for my GS2? Been using Checkrom & Siyah for a while now and it been great while waiting for ICS but i think today would be a good day to move considering the official has been out for a while so there must be some decent custom roms by now...

I was trying on some jeans before and texting a mate at the same time while waiting for the chick to grab dif sizes for me. I didnt realise but I chucked my new One X in the pocket of a pair that were no good. I slung it over the door of the change room and immediately heard "BANG" as my phone fell out and bounced off the ground, roughly where the power button/sim card goes.

My heart stopped. I picked it up, not a scratch to be seen, just the sim card had slightly popped out (not enough to grab but enough to displace it). The phone locked up after I put it back in and on a restart it refused to run, I was getting a bit worried. I waited a bit and tried again, and it was fine, just had the "the phone has recovered from an unusual restart" message.

So there ya have it, brilliant build quality. An iphone dropping from the same height and landing on the side would have a shattered screen and a shattered back.

Because no one's shattered the screen on their Android phone… Ever.

HTCs can definitely smash (did the screen on my legend dropping it flat onto concrete) but I've been massively impressed with my SGS2. Has been dropped / thrown 10+ times onto concrete now without a problem. It's a bit scratched but still works fine and the screen is perfect. Stupidly and drunkenly at a party a while back we were throwing our HTCs and Samsungs to prove they won't break (I think we just got lucky in that instance though!)

lol on a quick google I found this on an apple forum:

Quote:

I dropped my iPhone 4 4 days ago from about 2.5 - 3 feet on concrete. It was the first time I dropped it. The phone came down on its edge and cracked the front screen. Needless to say I was bummed. I dropped my 3gs 50+ times and it worked flawlessly. It was so sturdy I didn't use a case.
I made a genius bar appointment after reading these forums. I went in for my appointment today. The specialist examined my phone for damage, asked me what happened, checked for water damage, and said she would be right back.
She appeared 15 minutes later with a new iPhone. She activated it and put my old one in a black plastic shell. After signing a few papers and vowing not to be so clumsy I was off.
I went in expecting to pay 199 for a new screen. I have to say I was very surprised. They were in no way obligated to replace my screen, but did it for free and gained a lifelong customer in the process. So definitely give the apple store a shot before you pursue other options.

Well no shit, it's a defective product, they should fix it for free. The topic was like 8 pages and a bunch of people saying they dropped their phone from 2-3 ft and same thing.

I dropped mine from about face height, maybe higher (it fell out of jeans pocket that I slung over a change room door), so about 6 foot high.

Just converted from an ip4 to a HTC One X, the size was a bit of an adjustment, but the video/screen/graphics quality is amazing, and apps run very well, the only thing i'll miss is my iCloud service with itunes match. i do miss being able to access my rather large music library from anywhere, can anyone recommend an alternate solution?

Setup Orb or Plex servers on your desktop and then install the associated app = remote access to your desktop library - video and audio

Google music once its launched...

For access to my home library i use subsonic - great little 'donation' based app that allows you to set custom bitrates etc for streaming to you phone and the transcodes your media so when on 3g you can get lower bitrate vs wifi etc

Those of you with cars who are interested -> I'd been looking at car mount options for my sgs2 that don't involve windscreen suction cup or those air vent holders that scratch/bend your vents. Came across a company called brodit who make custom clip in holders for specific cars that can be paired with a phone holder for your model phone.

Ordered the Giulietta one from the Aus distributor:

Looks pretty near, $117 delivered all up, a little on the pricey side for a piece of plastic, but I'd say worth it compared to the other messier options. They do seem to cater for nearly every recent make of car with a clip in mount,

One X arrived yesterday. Initial thoughts were that the screen was huge, but 20 minutes later I was well and truly used to it.

It's fast. Real fast. Transition from app to app is very quick too. Graphics went watching videos are amazeballs.
And it's super light. That combined with how slim it is and sometimes you don't even notice it's in your pocket.

Yeah the combined slimness and weight is amazing. Whenever I show people they go "wow that's huge" then when I hand it to them "WOW that feels awesome" they say. Not a single negative comment about it so far, even from Apple devotees.

The battery life is a little bit lacking though :\ An hour of solid browsing drains about 30% life Three other small issues are sometimes when returning to the home screen it has to load for a few seconds, sometimes I unlock it and see a message saying "the phone has recovered from an unusual restart, do you want to send the info" and lastly when using dolphin browser, if I leave it open when the screen locks, unlocking the screen again results in the menu button not showing up, and I have to minimize the program and maximize it again to see the menu.

Dont forget its still early days so a good chance HTC will bring a update out to fix the phones issues and improve battery life and if they dont im sure someone else will do it, the joys of an open source.

Just experienced the shitty Telstra customer service. Apparently my drivers licence isn't a valid form of ID because it is cracked. I checked with the RTA ages ago and they said it's $20 to replace it but no need as it only becomes invalid if in multiple pieces. The police has had no issues, the major airlines accepted it, the tax office, St John Ambulance, every other fucking place in the last 2 years. Nope, not Telstra though. What a joke.

Edit - Signed up online, too easy. Moral of the story, avoid Telstra stores at all costs.

Afew minor surface scratches you cant notice while the screen is on isnt going to do anything. If they are alittle deeper that sucks. Ive had my desire for 2 years with no case/screen protector and I only have 2 small scratches that you can clearly see and thats because I left my motorbike keys in the same pocket as my phone last week.

Yeah mine lasted pretty well but I had screen protectors the whole time. The thing is with my job I always end up getting a lot of dirt and shit in my pockets so it's too risky. The tiny scratches seemed to polish out actually but I'd rather not risk it.

Must be a defective product. You should drop it from about 2.5-3 feet and return it.

I hate screen protectors, they take away the nice smoothness of the screen and more often than not have bubbles. Scratches aren't an issue, you can't see them when the screen is on.

screen protectors also seem to make the touch far less sensitive too. Hate them

gorilla glass shouldn't scratch easily anyway. Sucks if you got a phone with a plastic screen
