a) Basement Jaxx – Good Luck (Roni Size Vocal Mix)
b) Basement Jaxx – Good Luck (Roni Size Dancefloor Mix)
Currently on tour as part of the Big Day Out, UK super-duo Basement Jaxx have garnered their fair share of critics with their latest album Kish Kash. For the most part, the criticism has come from those feeling the Jaxx have gone too commercial (with vocalists appearing on the album ranging from underground to well and truly mainstream – ie JC Chasez of *NSYNC).
Personally, I love the album, but I fear that they won’t be winning over any of their detractors with remixes like this one. Put simply Roni Size’s take on album opener Good Luck is bloody awful. When playing this for someone and hiding the record sleeve he thought it was Tina Turner on speed, and I don’t blame him (even the press notes describe the track as ‘Tina Turner fronting The Stooges).
Of the two remixes, I’m leaning towards the Dancefloor Mix, purely because it’s almost devoid of the vocal. I realise the tempo has risen quite dramatically from the original, but the increased speed of the melody and vocal becomes incessant and quite irritating.
Some things weren’t meant to have a drum & bass remix.
