(Global Underground/Shock)

When Sasha releases a new album it is to be expected that it will be met with a mixture of elation and disgruntlement. Whilst others eagerly applaud his innovation and left of centre track selection, others cry out in horror as they struggle to come to terms with the unfamiliar territory they have just landed in. Back to stir the pot once again comes the result of Sasha’s latest technological romp, ‘Fundacion NYC’.

Taking technology to the greatest of heights, ‘Fundacion NYC’ sees Sasha ditching the decks for the Ableton computer mixing system aka ‘The Maven’. Originally used in the studio on ‘Involver’, Sasha has since improved it to the point that re-editing, looping, layering and sampling can take place live, and the result is absolutely stunning.

In what could easily be mistaken for one amazing long track that travels far into the realms of sound and beyond, this is actually 23 of the most intricately tweaked, blended and fused tracks you are ever likely to hear. Constantly gathering momentum, this album is awash with haunting melodies (Four Squares), brooding basslines (Another Way) and gritty electro guitar rifts (Blacklight Fantasy). It begins slowly with real warmth and ends so deliciously dirty that you are left gagging for more. This is the Sasha we have come to know and love, but far better, perfected if you will.

For Sasha, it has always been about exploring technology, pushing the limits of sound and creating the most satisfying listen possible. Give yourself time to indulge in Fundacion NYC, headphones recommended, it really is an exceptional listen.
