In collaboration with Munich-based Great Stuff Recordings, Acquaholic Volume One is a combination of house that leans in the more techy direction, stuff one may find if frequenting Ibiza’s Privelege club for Mr Aquaviva’s ‘Acquaholic’ night this northern Summer. But as that may prove a too testing engagement for many readers, this mix is gonna have to suffice.
The CD is billed on the cover as The True Electro Experience, but in essence, it’s a bit like calling Guantanamo Bay a True Getaway Destination. I.e., true sort of, but not really, considering there is no electro per se on here. It kicks off with Mike Monday’s Dub of From: Disco to: Disco by Whirlpool Productions, then marches on with tracks by Acquaviva himself, originals and mixes from Luetzenkirchen, Swen Weber, Umek, and other artists that largely fall under the generic house label, some edging into, as stated, interesting tech territory, some, admittedly, sounding a bit more ‘electro’ than not – but a great deal straight up hard house with more focus on the ferocity of the drum programming than much else.
It goes up and down, but without necking a few pingers and standing in front of a monster sound system, it only goes so far. One for those hanging for a trip to Ibiza.
