A few years ago as I was getting into house music through a good friend of mine, who also happened to be my music teacher. I came across a producer called Miguel Migs. Consequently I found what is now one of my favourite CDs ever. ‘Nude Tempo One’. This was a beautiful CD, full of funky, deep, sexy, amazing house music, with silky smooth Rhodes, saxophone solos, flautists showing off, amazing drum sounds, and deep, hypnotic vocals. You get the picture.

‘Housexy’ volume one I loved also. It was a massively fun CD, funky and deep, but still accessible. CD 1 was on more of a commercial tip, whilst the second CD was deeper, a lot cooler. ‘Housexy 2’ follows a similar format. Disc 2 reminds me of the Miguel Migs CD, deep, funky and sexy, with lots of jazzy chords and basslines. Mixed by Nathan G, the tracklisting features a lot of Nathan’s own remixes and productions, including the excellent ‘Try Me Out’ by Romana. I love this disc, it is by far one of the best releases on Ministry… ever!

Disc 1, however, opens with a remix of ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’. As soon as I heard it, I couldn’t help byt slap my head. It’s the Soul Central mix, and it’s not bad. It’s better than the original, but it is still a tired, old, overplayed song. This CD is aimed for the kiddies I think, with lots of commercial tunes, filled with cheesy vocals. This is more of a ‘funky house’ CD, and not particularly deep, or sexy. It’s funky in the sense of the genre, not in the sense of describing music as having… err, funk. There are some great tracks on the CD however, including ‘Take Me Higher’ my Mischa Daniels, and the Seamus Haji remix of ‘Boogie 2nite’.

I love this compilation. The Nathan G CD is far better than the Alan Thompson mix, in my opinion of course, but the 2 CDs cater to different moods, different audiences and different tastes. Buy it. You will have no regrets.
