Tim Deluxe calls on the services of the sizzling Sam Obernik once again for his new single You Got Tha Touch on Red Label. The producer/DJ has enjoyed a decade of success since his first release RIP Groove with Amidora under the moniker Double 99 was caned by one-and-all back in ‘97. Leaping from UK garage to a solo dirty/funky house sound for a spell on Darren Emerson’s Underwater label in 2001, North London‘s self-confessed ginger club kid has been a household name ever since.

The Original Edit is a dirty house track which tumbles along with rolling percussion interspersed with Jaxxy screeches and bleeps. Obernik’s vocals are sexy as always, despite never hitting the flirtatious heights of Latino house monster It Won’t Do. A magnificent breakdown three quarters of the way through comes back in with the thumping beat and bass guitar leading the track to its close. A funky, dirty house track which is definitely a grower, with the potential to be a crossover hit .

Martin Buttrich, who has produced over one hundred tracks with Timo Maas as well as working in the studio with Loco Dice, serves up a cracking, barely recognisable deep tech instrumental edit that strips away the vocal and subsequently much of the funk of the original mix. A bubbling, patient eight minute ride rises and falls in a solid smoky late night techno score. Buttrich also provides a second remix which shuffles the vocal over the deep tech edit to reasonable effect but it is the instrumental version which proves the most enjoyable.

Somewhere in between, Matt Playford tweaks the track into a twisted punchy remix which is a dancefloor-friendly alternative with its minimal use of vocals allowing the listener to focus on his innovative twiddlage. All in all a strong enough release which is satisfying without demonstrating any marked evolution from the familiar Deluxe sound.
