Long the voice of underground dance music on BBC’s Radio 1 in the UK, the beloved Mary Anne Hobbs stepped down from her post overnight, broadcasting her final show after some 14 years on the airwaves.
But it wasn’t a broadcast of nostalgic, This Is Your Life style moments as Hobbs hung up her headphones, rather, the UK DJ went out with a bang premiering new material from none other than reclusive dubstep prodigy Burial.
Featured on Hobbs’ final show with a special guest mix, the enigmatic Burial presented a new mix set alongside Hyperdub boss Kode 9. Given the strong standing that Burial’s Untrue had with ITMers in our album of the decade countdown, this is obviously pretty big news, and the only place you can hear it is over at the BBC site, so get clicking and strap yerselves in.
