Dance cruise runs aground (Jonathan Davis responsible?)
Wed 11th Jan, 2012 in News 2138 views
Last week we reported that Holy Ship!, the electronic music cruise featuring performances from the likes of Skrillex, Diplo and Steve Aoki, had set sail. Yesterday, we got word that Korn frontman Jonathan Davis had boarded the cruise to play a surprise set with Aoki – and it seems it only took him one day to run the whole thing aground. At least that’s one way of looking at it.
It seems that somewhere near the Bahamas, cruise ship MSC Poesia proved less buoyant than Davis’ sadly long-running career and became stuck on sand dunes. According to some reports, the ship was run aground for a whole day and had passengers on the 2,500 person capacity cruise wailing “We’re gonna die!” Eventually, the ship was freed and Holy Ship! resumed its maiden voyage, mortality free.
Cruise-industry figure Hadley Forbes told KHQ, “I don’t know what happened with this one. Something drastically went wrong.” Maybe the bass was just too heavy for MSC Poesia to stay afloat?
For more on the big event, head over to Rolling Stone for a gallery from the festival, which includes snaps of Skrillex and Rusko’s joint set, Laidback Luke, Diplo and Steve Aoki behind the decks and Davis and Pam Anderson’s ex Tommy Lee buddying up.
