The road to hearing the product of Pnau and Elton John’s collaboration has been a weird one. First, we got the initially bemusing news that Nick Littlemore, Peter Mayes and Elton were working together. Next, the collaborative album – which has the Pnau dudes remix and reinterpret Elton’s back catalogue –was confirmed for a 2012 release and then, Good Morning to the Night arrived and actually turned out to be surprisingly good.
So the final frontier of the Elton John vs Pnau journey is to see the show live and now, we can. Elton has announced that he and Pnau are bringing the collaboration to the Sydney Entertainment Centre for a one off show as part of Elton’s 40th anniversary tour on November 16. Of course, it’s not the first time the crew have got on stage together – you might remember some grainy footage of their performance in at Rocktronic Festival in Ibiza emerging a couple of months ago.
“In July, I was invited to appear with Pnau at the Ibiza Rocktronic 123 Festival. Although it was an incredibly young audience, I was very surprised and happy to hear them all singing along to Your Song before we had even started playing the dance music,’’ the Sir himself commented. “I am hoping members of the Sydney audience will be equally enthusiastic when they come and see me play Good Morning To The Night with these two very talented Aussies.” If you’re keen, tickets to see “the dance music” go on sale September 21.
