One of Australia’s firm DJ favourites Kid Kenobi is back with his first compilation in two years, and his first release since he parted ways with the Ministry of Sound stable. Klub Kids 01 is a double-disc affair in the vein of what we’ve enjoyed from ‘The Kid’ in the past, but with one important difference. While the first CD features the sort of big-room house and electro we’ve been hearing in his sets as of late, it’s the sounds of dubstep that are featured on the second disc.

It’s a surprising move for Kid Kenobi; dubstep has reigned supreme in the underground credibility stakes in the past 12 months, but it’s a different sound to what we’ve come expect from his recent club performances. Though if you look at his taste in music, it’s not such a radical shift; in his former life as Australia’s biggest breakbeat supporter, Kid Kenobi was well known for his love of the laidback sounds of dub, which were showcased on Clubber’s Guide To Breaks Vol. 2 back in 2002.

Whether you consider Kid Kenobi’s new taste for dubstep a stretch or not, we’ll have to wait and see whether he starts belting out the genre’s unmistakable basslines in his club sets! He’s currently on tour in the US, but expect news on a national tour shortly.

Kid Kenobi’s Klub Kids 01 will be in the stores on June 5th, check out the tracklisting below…

I really liked the dub cd on his 2005 sessions, opened me up to some cool new artists and sounds. Hopefully this disc will do the same, not really digging dupstep as a genre much.

Just a point - Dubstep and Dub are two different things. While there is a "link", the terms are not interchangable.

So many chins to stroke and so little time..... So many fuckin haters. I don't have the time of day for his music anymore, since he stepped away from breaks, because electro house sucks arse, but the guy is still fuckin good at whatever he does. Cam's st

" we’ll have to wait and see whether he starts belting out the genre’s unmistakable basslines in his club sets!" Obviously you won't be there to see it. He's BEEN playing dubstep in his club (and festival) sets since late last year. To all the Shures
