Back in July it was announced that Phrase and Miami Horror would be covering Australian classics for The Snickers Sessions. The extra spin on it all was that fans got to vote on which song the acts would cover. For every vote cast, the folks at Snickers put $1 towards Heaps Decent, the initative that helps underprivileged and indigenous young people get creative.

As it turned out, Miami Horror’s fans voted in force for the band to cover The Church’s Under the Milky Way, while Phrase was tasked with putting a spin on Reckless by Australian Crawl. The videos from the Snickers Sessions have been put online, so you can see how the artists fared.

First up is Phrase’s reworking of Reckless. “I’ve really flipped this song on its head,” explains the MC. “I’ve almost doubled the tempo, I’ve written and performed two rap verses with my personal experiences on Reckless behaviour. I’ve also pulled it out of the ‘80s sonically and worked it in with my sound of late which is ‘60s garage rock.”

Miami Horror, on the other hand, didn’t want to tweak too much about The Church’s evergreen late ‘80s hit. “I think our focus is to modernise the drum production, add some interesting changes, and maybe make the song more progressive. It’s hard to actually have ideas for a song like this, one you actually like, because you don’t have anything you want to change!”
