Back in ’09, the dearly beloved Stereosonic decreed that punters at the festival would not be allowed to go shirtless. This came as a welcome relief for many who were sick of their festival ticket also acting as a pass to the gun show – though judging by the response to this article, not everyone supported the decision. So two years down the track, just how has the shirts-on policy panned out for Stereosonic?
The Stereosonic website warns festival-goers “Anyone not wearing tops (singlet, t-shirt etc) will be rejected at the gate. Anyone inside the event not wearing a top will have their wristband removed and will be ejected from the event’.
We spoke to Stereosonic organiser John Curtin, who told us “Basically, our stance remains the same on this and we will be enforcing it. We are committed to providing a safe event.”
But has the shirts-on policy actually reduced the number of obnoxious, gyrating, Southern Cross-tattooed males at Stereosonic? Does wearing a shirt effectively contain the amount of sweat cursing through a mosh-pit? Or should the price of a festival ticket also buy the right to whatever attire you so choose?
