If there was any international line-up to make a techno devotee swoon last year, it had to be the Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit. With hometown don Carl Craig in place as 2010’s Creative Director, the roll-call of talent was exhaustive. Model 500, Plastikman, Inner City, DJ Koze, Anthony Shakir and Joel Mull were among a bill that spanned the US, Europe and beyond.
So, how do you top that? To start ramping up the excitement for the three-day event in May, Movement has released the first 20 names on the bill. Cocoon caner (and soon-to-be Australian visitor) Sven Väth is there, along with fellow vets like Kerri Chandler and Green Velvet. One of the Motor City’s more recent success stories – the DJ/production collective Visionquest – is representing the new guard alongside fellow of-the-moment house outfits Soul Clap and Art Department.
Movement isn’t all about techno, though. Drum & bass original Goldie is locked in, with dubstep represented at the atmospheric end by Scuba and the stadium-filling (and controversial) end by Skrillex. The festival takes over Hart Plaza in Detroit from 28 to 30 May. Will this be the year you do it?
The Movement 2011 first line-up looks like this:
