It’s high summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which means dance music veteran Carl Cox is a busy man. As well as regular dispatches to festival fields around Europe, the DJ can be found every Tuesday at Space Ibiza, where his Revolution night is celebrating a ten year run on the island. Needless to say, times are good for Carl Cox.

With a new album All Roads Lead To The Dancefloor imminent, Cox recently spoke to UK rag the Mirror about sticking to his guns and avoiding the advances of pop and hip hop stars keen for his talents in the producer’s chair.

“I’ve turned them all down, I just don’t believe in it,” he told the paper. “Years ago, hip hop meant something. It was a stand against society. But these days it’s all about bling-bling and getting paid. If I got involved in that my credibility would go down, not up.”

He also offered a frank assessment of Sweat, the David Guetta and Snoop Dogg collab that’ll appear on Guetta’s forthcoming LP Nothing But The Beat. “For me one of the worst records ever made is by Guetta and Snoop Dogg – it’s the epitome of what’s bad about dance music collaboration,” Cox said.

“I like David Guetta as a person and he’s talented in his own right, the same with Snoop. But put them together and it gives me a headache. It’s just a cool business arrangement. Their managers have sat down together and done the maths.”
